Rent-to-own: how it works
For people who were declined by the banks but can afford a car each month. Maintenance (tyres, services, brakes) is included.
Four steps
- Choose a car. Pick one from our available cars or ask us; a consultant first checks that it is available.
- Send your documents. Apply online with photos or scans, or bring them to one of our offices.
- We check and call you. We check your documents and what you can afford, and explain the deposit and monthly payment.
- Sign and drive. You sign the agreement (we explain every part of it), set up a debit order with your bank, and collect your car.
Documents you need
- Driver's licence: valid, and you must be 23 or older. The ID number on it must match your ID. A licence less than 2 years old is possible with an extra risk fee and a test drive.
- ID document or valid passport (foreign clients: a valid ID and passport).
- Proof of address in your name, not older than 3 months, that came by post: a utility bill or account statement. Councillor letters, courier slips and e-mails are not accepted.
- Your last 3 months' bank statements from the account your salary is paid into, in your own name.
- Payslip if you are employed (the nett pay should match what is paid into your account).
- A bank card (debit or credit).
Self-employed? You can apply too (a self-employment fee applies). No licence? A joint contract with a nominated driver and a surety form is possible. Extra drivers need their own ID and licence.
Good to know
- The contract runs 48 months. At the end you can buy the car at a market-related price, upgrade, or carry on.
- Insurance is not included: you may take out your own. The contract's damage waiver is not insurance.
- Every car has a tracker, and there are quarterly inspections. Each plan has a monthly kilometre allowance.
- Pay by debit order or EFT (no fee); card payments carry a small card fee.
