Privacy notice (POPIA)
Merzy Agencies CC t/a Vrentals ("Vrentals", "we") is the responsible party for the personal information you give us on this website, under the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA).
What we collect
- Contact details you type in: name, cell number, e-mail, town.
- For a rent-to-own application: copies of your ID or passport, driver's licence, proof of address, bank statements, payslip, and the details on them.
- For a booking: dates, kind of car and office.
- Chat messages you send us, and the page and advert that brought you to us (for example "utm" tags in the link).
- For auctions: your cell number (to send a login code), name, ID number, e-mail, your bids and deposit payments.
- Payments made through PayFast: PayFast handles your card; we only receive the payment confirmation and amount.
Why
- To answer you, check your application (identity, licence, address and affordability) and prepare a contract.
- To take bookings, auction bids and payments, and to meet our legal and accounting duties.
- To send offers, only if you ticked the box (or you are a client and did not opt out). Reply STOP on WhatsApp to stop them.
- To see which adverts work (counted per advert, not to profile you).
Who sees it
Only Vrentals staff who need it for your application, booking or auction. We do not sell your information. Service providers we use (PayFast for payments, Meta's WhatsApp for messages) process it for us under their own security terms.
How long we keep it
- Applications that do not become a contract: deleted 12 months after the last contact.
- Clients' contracts and payment records: kept for 5 years after the contract ends (tax and FICA rules).
- Chat messages: 12 months. Auction records: 5 years (sale records).
Your rights
You may ask what information we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, object to its use, and withdraw consent for marketing at any time. You may complain to the Information Regulator (inforegulator.org.za).

Security
Your documents are kept on our own system, not in e-mail or chat groups, and only staff who need them can open them.
